@pyska_diMap 🐞:
Alr 12 mb💀
Fix this
And make it from 12mb to at least 800kb🙏
As I understand it, the map's concept is copied 1:1 from Arctic Festivity, which is bad because Arctic Festivity is an event map
Also, the map's gameplay, as I saw, is built around a couple of power-ups, and if you don't take them, the map can become impossible to complete, unlike, say, Arctic Festivity, where you could easily complete it without them
Also, almost all the parts on the map are uninteresting, boring, and ununique, like flying between blocks with a jetpack, standing on an edge, unfreezing with a laser, etc
In general, thank you for your map submission, but the map does not meet current map quality standards. If you want to build a good map, you can look at recent releases to understand what you are missing. It is also better not to copy the idea of another map 1 to 1

@pyska_diHey, thanks a lot for the detailed feedback and for taking the time to review my map. I understand the issues. I’ll fix the bugs (Tele-CP, missing time CPs) and reduce the map size closer to ~1 MB.
I also didn’t intend to copy Arctic Festivity 1:1 — our community played it a lot and got tired of it, so I tried to make my own map inspired by the gift system, nothing more.
Regarding the power-ups, the map was designed from the beginning around using them, so it wasn’t intended to be completed without weapons, and that wasn’t the goal of the gameplay.
I’ll also adjust the gift system to make it more distinct (for example, giving players a choice between two weapons instead of using a random system), and I’ll improve some parts to make them more interesting and less based only on standard mechanics.
If I properly address the issues mentioned above, would it be possible to have the map reviewed again?
Thanks again for the feedback — I really appreciate it.
The problem with the power-up is that you suggest choosing any, but in reality, you need specific ones. For example, if you don't take the laser, you won't be able to complete the map, which is bad in my opinion Also, regarding the development of this idea, I don't think it makes sense. The map's gameplay itself isn't rich in anything interesting, as I mentioned above. There are no interesting or unique parts on the map; it's mostly hammer hit with small intermediate parts of 1-2 hooks
As a final question: instead of copying an existing map, I’m thinking about taking a non-weapon gameplay approach as a base, similar in spirit to Back in the Days 2, and designing a new map around it, while making sure it remains fully playable without requiring specific power-ups.
On top of that, I would like to experiment with a reworked gift system that doesn’t force a specific choice and doesn’t act as a requirement to complete the map.
Would such an approach, where the core gameplay is independent and the gift system is only an additional mechanic, have a better chance of being accepted?
yes
Just to be 100% sure: I’m a bit worried about this.
Are there any kind of author/ownership rules in DDNet regarding maps?
For example, I know Silex reworked his own map into a Festivity version, which makes sense since it’s his map. But if I take someone else’s map and turn it into a Fest-style version (like adding a gift system), would that be considered not allowed or too much?
So basically, is it okay to fully copy someone else’s map and modify it, or is that not acceptable? I just don’t want to cross any boundaries.
Back in the days 2, 3, stronghold
It's better not to remake other people's maps, but to try to make your own. I don't think such a map will be successful
I think I’ll take inspiration from a map like Back in the Days 2 and build my own version around that idea, adding a gift system and adjusting some parts to increase the difficulty.
I’m not really aiming for popularity, but rather for an interesting gameplay experience. For example, no one expected something like Arctic Festivity to become popular even though it was based on an existing concept.
Is there any rule forcing map to be max 1mb?
No but you need to atlesst get it down -10mb
if it goes above 2mb without an extraordinary design you're doing something very wrong
Optimized version attached,
@ramirok_. Changelog:
🥀
So if map has specific explanations can go above 2mb
mainly size
and if decore requieres it
aka abyss
you should get permission from the original mapper
