1?
what makes this map better than the declined oldschools?
which declined oldschools?
Like Hot beach, hdp_deepfreeze and others that i don't remember now xD
all the ''decline, standards'' from vena
then we get this dogshi
thanks for explanation, well i didn't see those maps 😅
your map has just been released, and you now have a 2-week grace period to identify and resolve any unnoticed bugs or skips. After these two weeks, only design and quality of life (QoL) fixes will be allowed, provided they don't impact the leaderboard rankings. Be aware that significant gameplay changes may impact and lead to the removal of ranks. Good luck with your map!
fr_drop has been set to RELEASED.
Like I would genuinely be interested in that and whomever has set this to ready which one unfortunately can’t see anymore 🤷🏻♀️
And Ipwnddrace got declined
Yeah any sense
Also the black one with crazy trailer was declined
Limbo
Limbus
Its probably because it allows for hammer hit skip xD and u know if a map have a hammer hit part then its „pro” hue hue. Bcs of that hammer hit I still wonder why it wasnt moved to brutal (minimum 4 stars) xD
10 years ago I did like the map. Wouldn’t release it today. Too short and have too many and very easy to perform skips which make the map even shorter.
I don't really understand whats wrong about "short" maps
Wouldn't release it today. delete the map, ban the name, pretend they all saw it in their dreams, problem solved
times have changed and players wan a longer challenge. If map allows for 1 minute run then they just join in finish and quit and never comeback. Maybe if the map would have a better flow/gameplay then they would stay and try to make a nice speedrun out of it. Maybe ddnet rly needs a new category for shorts!? With what most player want nowadays „longer challenge” and without new special category this kind of maps will be hated and doomed to be one time never comeback finish.
I dont see any argument against short maps here
You are just making up claims about what people "want"
Based on talks with lots of players and based on what I see in game(their reaction).
Players told me different stuff then
u always seen things diffrent 🙂
short maps are really good to learn brutal gameplay, its alot less punishing and you get rewarded for less, which supports the learning curve
Ive never said that short maps are bad Ive said that players hate them bcs they want longer challenges. Ive also said that nowadays this kind of maps are doomed bcs of what I wrote above. Thats also why I wrote about new special category is needed (maybe).
Without new category this kind of maps will be hated. New category new point system for that category and good rules about the flow/gameplay of maps. Just taking old short maps and throwing them into that new category wont solve anything.
There was an attempt on that. Players seen a big drama and Ive seen a big misunderstanding between admins and testing group.
New category done properly could be rly popular.
I think we can release short maps without a new category for them 😅
The length of this map is only one aspect why I‘m wondering about the release, much rather I’d say the whole map entirely lacks any content (which is also in relation to the length, yes)
Just curios why this was deemed good enough while 90 % of the other oldschoolds aren’t/weren’t, nothing else 😂
Yeah i totally understand you there, i just don't like the decline of short maps 😅 sorry for going into the wrong direction, your complaint is valid 🙂
It‘s not even supposed to be a complaint, literally just curious about the reasons as I see zero potential in this map
ofc they can ^^ but sadly I think they will be treated the same way as most of short maps are treated now. It also does not look that this will change.
how are short maps treated now?
Declined
i'm pretty sure this wasn't declined for just being short
Too short/ "lack of content", even though it was meant as a speedrun map
too short and lack of content aren't synonyms
I know, but if its super short you cant give a lot of content to the map you know.
can a tester tell me what ''standards'' means now? somehow this map met the standard requirements to be released but not other oldschool maps with same reasoning
Can‘t even ping testers, can you?
(i wasn't a tester when the map was declined nor i think it should be declined nor i use the word standards)
pinging multiple staff members is easy to abuse XD
I just wonder by now why the people who are responsible for this don’t respond
Yes unfortunately
This conversation is a bit messy, i try to sum it up Some players are questioning by which standards some maps are treated, because there were declined oldschool maps with a similar quality to fr_drop. In that conversation i said that short maps aren't bad because they are short and someone came up with a map, that was somewhat declined because it was short. Now someone else asked about the definition of "standards". Which question do you want to ask all the testers?
The conversation isnt messy at all i think everyone is wondering the same thing. Whats the reason for releasing this map
I made this map ready (2nd ready), I think vena did the first ready (according to the screenshot posted after channel creation). When I did the 2nd ready, there were also Welf and Kicker on the server. None of them stopped me from doing so. It makes no sense to compare the "standards" of an oldschool map to the standards of other maps, since oldschool maps are from a different day and age. I was under the impression that we try to get every single oldschool map on the ddnet servers for the sake of completion (just like we have all ddmax maps). Hence, i did not think that the fact that this isnt the greatest map was a problem. I dont think ive ever declined an oldschool map for the reason of having too low "standards". I would have no problem with the other declined short/"low standard" oldschool maps being reuploaded + released as long as they meet the basic requirements (e.g. uploader didnt change stuff u shouldnt change on an oldschool map).
in https://ddnet.org/testlogs/show/HDP_DeepFreeze. Seems like some testers have different impressions on this topic. Sadly i wasnt part of this conversation. So i can understand the confusion from the players.
Can totally understand that 👍 The issue is that each tester does it differently apparently, if I'm not mistaken there was an internal discussion in the past that led to the outcome that we do only release oldschools that meet some elevated standards (to prevent the heavy oldschool release spam) I don't think this was ever publicly announced but that seems to be the prevailing opinion
Ah yes that explains it
Hmmm alright, i guess its my mistake then? And the map shouldnt have been released?
But then again
why did vena want to ready this map
cause he did decline the other oldschool maps with higher quality
No it's not your mistake, don't worry you couldn't even really know about that 😂
Yeah I still wonder about the first ready as well especially if it was vena who loves to decline oldschools lmao
release all oldschools
i will dig out my first maps then
its summertime, revive ddnet
you can help reviving it by testing maps 🙂
Maybe i could resubmit some for a re-review
yea thats what i suggested
Ok :3
i want that sickcunt map now XD
but pls post the unedited original versions first
Ok
When it's not a classic drag part map, not random, or filled with 100,000 switches, it can be a really different style from other oldschool maps and interesting to speedrun and play in general. Even if the gameplay seems randomly mapped, I wasn't sure and didn't mark it as ready. However, some other testers seem to be okay with the release, so I'm fine with it.
To summarize, it's not really about the quality (even though we can't release it if it's horrible to play) but more about the originality. We established these "standards" because we had more oldschool maps than any other category, and most of them have very similar and basic gameplay.
no idea, you can ask admin about the trial category, have fun with it
is there an issue with releasing maps without well fitting category for them?
who wrote this for u
Chat gpt, it was late, i was lazy to write in a "good english"
